Remove every unneeded space and line break from JSON to make it as small as it can be. The minifier runs in your browser and shows how many bytes you saved.
What changes and what does not
The whitespace between values is removed; spaces inside strings are part of the data and stay. Key order and number spelling stay exactly as written, so 41.50 stays 41.50 and an ID such as 9007199254740993 keeps every digit. The data is identical, but escape sequences in strings are written in their plain form: \u00e9 becomes é and \/ becomes /. Turn on sort keys if you also want a stable order, for example before comparing two files.
JSON Lines input stays one document per line, which is what tools that read .jsonl files expect, and saving gives you a .jsonl file.
Using the result
The status line shows the size before and after, and the change in percent. Copy the result, save it as a .min.json file, or press format to replace the input with the minified version; undo puts the original back.
Input that is not valid JSON is not minified. The error view shows what is wrong and offers repairs you can apply first.
Questions
Is minified JSON still valid JSON?
Yes. Whitespace between values has no meaning in JSON, so the data is identical.
Does it compress the file?
No. It only makes the text shorter. Web servers usually compress JSON with gzip or brotli on top of that.
Can I make it readable again?
Yes. Switch to pretty to see it formatted with 2 spaces, 4 spaces or tabs.
